1978 Macho Trans Am 140 4-speed W72
One of just 204 Macho Trans Ams made by Mecham Design (DKM) in 1978 and one of only 3 with Black Starlight paint & Mayan Red accents, this custom Turbo T/A was converted to a Macho Trans Am from the Special Edition Trans Am produced by Pontiac. Prior to being upgraded to a Macho T/A, this car was already unique in that it was one of just 4112 that Pontiac made in '78 with W72 Engine and 4-speed (stick shift or manual) Borg Warner Transmission. The Hurst T-Tops are part of the Special Edition package, originally on the car when it was born in Van Nuys. Some refer to the 1977, 1978 and 1979 Special Edition Trans Ams as "Bandit Car" or "Smokey and The Bandit Trans Am" because a 1977 SE T/A was used in the Bandit films with Burt Reynolds and Jerry Reed (r.i.p.).
This is a Macho Trans Am. Proudly produced in Arizona USA, where it still lives today.
This car became a Macho T/A in Glendale Arizona which, back in 1978, was nothing like it is today. Now Glendale is home to the Arizona Cardinals football team, Coyotes Hockey team and Glendale just hosted Super Bowl 42. The NY Giants beat the New England Patriots, a great game which followed an equally amazing Fiesta Bowl wherein Boise State defeated Oklahoma.....at the same stadium in Glendale.
